As Seen in Southern Living: The Spring Cleaning Rule Dr. Meagan Shepherd Says to Ignore

Spring cleaning season often comes with long to-do lists, overflowing donation piles, and a push to organize every corner of the house. But one common seasonal habit may be getting more attention than it deserves.

Recently featured in Southern Living, I shared that decluttering and organizing aren't necessarily the same thing as creating a healthier home environment.

Instead, I recommend focusing on the places where allergens actually accumulate.

"My spring and summer cleaning routine focuses on soft surfaces, like cozy blankets from winter and throw pillows, where allergens like dust mites, pet dander, pollen, and mold are most likely to accumulate."

While neatly organizing closets can feel productive, washing bedding, refreshing textiles, and addressing allergen-prone areas may have a much bigger impact on how your home feels.

At The Allergy Aesthetic™, we believe a calm home starts with a healthy foundation. Sometimes the most meaningful seasonal reset isn't what you put away. It's what you clean.
